Construction on a logistics centre
Hosokawa Alpine, one of the world's leading suppliers in the fields of powder & particle processing and film extrusion, will build a new logistics centre on the site of Augsburg's central freight terminal. Construction will commence at the end of May 2019. Completion is scheduled for mid-2020. With the new building, the long-established Augsburg company will extend its warehousing and cargo handling space. The space available at the existing location on the head office premises in Augsburg for loading and unloading trucks and containers is limited. And an extension was not possible. "The investment in the new building is a commitment to the Augsburg location as well as an investment in the future of the company", says Dr Antonio Fernández, chairman of the executive board at Hosokawa Alpine.
Hosokawa Alpine places a strong focus on environmentally friendly transport
Once the first construction phase is completed, Hosokawa Alpine will have over 6,000 square metres more warehousing space. To this end, the company is investing around eleven million euros. An extension by an additional 5,000 square metres would be possible in a second construction phase. The company develops and builds machines for customers from all over the world. "The objective of the new building is to improve our logistics infrastructure and thus to make order handling easier", says Dr Fernández. The perfect link of the Augsburg freight centre to the railway network permits the fastest possible delivery of the machines to our customers. At the same time, Hosokawa Alpine will do justice to its sustainability standards in that the majority of deliveries will be transported by rail. Switching the transport from road to rail along with the associated shift of the logistics to the freight centre will substantially ease the traffic on the roads surrounding the Hosokawa Alpine premises and in the entire municipal centre of Augsburg.
Ideally equipped for the future
It is not only in terms of space that Hosokawa Alpine is continuing its expansion course in 2019. The turnover of the company increased in fiscal year 2017/ 2018 to around 200 million euros. And the number of staff also increased to currently some 750 employees. Around 715 of this number are employed in Augsburg.
